When I was with Tyra, we talked about “Tumbling Parrots” I love that imagery, and the faces on the heads of her birds are so distinct and beautiful. The parrot is an important symbol to the Hopis, and their ancestors. Parrot feathers have been found among ruins of the four-corners area and are still used in modern Hopi ceremonies. This is a hand coiled, traditionally fired polychrome mini cannister/cylinder. The “stippled” painted background behind the parrots gives this piece a textured look. It’s terrific.
