This fantastic bowl, made in the early 2010’s, is from a period when she was using all traditional techniques. Not only coiling, and firing outdoors, but also using all-natural slips and pigments. Susan was influenced by Northwest Coast designs, and designed this bowl using those symbols and imagery. The top third of the jar has stunning and complex incised work. There are two rows of diamond shapes that act as a border. The bottom of the jar is fully polished. Her trademark incised X s are seen throughout the piece as a background. These X s graduate downward in size to fit the shape of the jar. The polished small round opening on the lip is visually appealing. This is a terrific example of Susan’s traditional pottery.
