This wedding jar by Russell is remarkably elegant. The form is a difficult one to coil, getting the spout just right, and not making it top or bottom heavy. Russell can create a beautiful and symmetric shape. What adds to the difficulty here is making the middle of the jar in the gourd style, with even indentations going around the entire piece. Three strands of brown and turquoise heishi shells are imbedded in the body. Those colors are a marvelous compliment to the sienna toned handles and spout. Notice how the underside of the handle is also completely polished. Such a hard thing to achieve! It shows such refinement. This is a wonderful example of a classic shape, with the uniqueness that Russell brings to it.
