Ronald Chavez (Santo Domingo) (Kewa)
Born on April 20, 1958, to Rosalita and Remijio Chavez, Santo Domingo artist Ronald Chavez learned the craft of heishi making from his parents and grandmother. Beginning at age 6, Ronald would drill and grind heishi stones that his grandmother would then string into necklaces. He learned the old way, by grinding and buffing by hand with a grinding stone and buckskin.

Ronald lives at Santo Domingo Pueblo with his wife (Petra) and grown son (Ambrose). These slabs are wonderful! They are handmade multi stone slab earrings (turquoise, jet, coral, mother of pearl, lapis) but they have a unique feature. They are reversible! so they can be worn on either side.

2” long (from the top of the silver wire)
