Robert Patricio is a superb potter AND painter. Hand coiled, and traditionally fired outdoors, I had asked Robert if he could make us a “seed pot” on a bit smaller scale than his large ollas. He was happy to fulfill my request. It turned out to be quite stunning. His traditional patterns and designs are great. Robert explains “They call this design the fog and mist with the sunset and sunrise. The top of the seed pot represents Starburst or yucca plant. The black in the middle that looks like bats are mountains going in each direction.” It makes it so rich when an artist shares with us about their design element meanings. This is a beautiful example of Acoma polychrome work.
