I am always so pleased when Richard does some “scaled down” pieces for us. He does such a nice job with his proportions. This small vase is uniquely Richard. The structure and surface of this pieces makes you want to reach out and touch it. The squiggly carved rows have a basket like appearance. It must have taken so much time to do this amount of work. The neck of the jar has been painted with eight three leaf patterns. The same black paint is then repeated as vertical lines, dividing the carved rows below into eight panels. By doing this, the overall effect is very connected. The jar is super lightweight. A terrific small example of Richard’s work.
