Richard Ebelacker (1946-2010) was a grandson of Margaret Tafoya and son of Virginia Ebelacker. He grew up watching and working the clay with them.
Richard didn’t really begin making pottery until after his return from Vietnam in 1968. He became a master of traditional carved and polished redware and black ware, earning the Best of Classification award at the 1992 Santa Fe Indian Market. He was skilled at making exceptionally large jars. Richard’s work was impressive, displaying a refined, traditional style. Over the past three decades, Richard won over 35 ribbons, including Best of Class and Best of Division.
