Reycita Naranjo (Santa Clara) (1926 – 2003)
Reycita Naranjo was born in 1926 and is one of a large family of potters, all of whom are exceptional artists. Her sisters, Clara Shije, Elizabeth Naranjo, Florence Browning, Mary Singer, and Mary Carlisle all are recognized as outstanding potters including her mother Pablita Tafoya Chavarria. She was known for her carved and highly polished pottery. Reycita had been an award winner at Santa Fe Indian Market since 1981. She had been featured in numerous publications as well.

This wedding vase is in such great condition. It is carved beautifully, with the avanyu (water serpent) going around the entire center of the vase. The polishing is to an extremely high sheen. The twisted handle adds an extra amount of difficulty and visual appeal. This would be a terrific addition to anybody’s collection who loves classic, traditional, Santa Clara black carved work. Circa 1970’s – 80’s.
