Working with Paula is a real pleasure. It is exciting to chat with her about certain shapes, and about which designs will fit those various forms. This hand coiled vase is painted with natural pigments. Using the checkerboard pattern representing corn, this is a wonderfully symmetrical vase. The black painted border on the lip sets off the colorful patterns so well. Particularly pleasing is the square opening. Notice how well Paula can make the design stretch out on the vase – tiny squares at the top graduating in size to the larger squares on the body of the jar. You can see what an expert painter she is.
