This is an amazingly detailed new bowl by Johnathan Naranjo. Hand coiled, traditionally fired outside, it is a wonderful example of his skills with sgraffito. Someone made a comment to him about searching for a river for serenity, and thus he is calling this “Head towards the mountains” It depicts a beautiful bird, deer, dragonflies, and fish. The fish is rising to the surface of the river. The bird is incised in such a way that it looks like it is actually coming off the background leaves. The deer is set amongst the trees and mountains. Around the asymmetric neck are incised spirals. Everything is illustrated so well. What a stunning piece!
