Here we have a hand coiled, slipped, and incised, traditionally fired Black-headed grosbeak. This highly polished black bird is so colorful. The black-headed grosbeak is a medium-sized, seed-eating bird in the same family as the northern cardinal. Black-headed Grosbeaks are hefty songbirds with very large bills that are conical and thick at the base. They have large heads and short, thick necks. The black, white, and red coloration here is so attractive. Look at the detail work Jennifer has drawn and incised on its wing and the black and white tail is expertly displayed. Jennifer’s ability to create these free standing birds is outstanding.
