This is a first for us. Japanese cranes. The red-crowned crane, also called the Manchurian crane or Japanese crane, is a large East Asian crane among the rarest cranes in the world. In some parts of its range, it is known as a symbol of luck, longevity, and fidelity. So this is a particularly lucky piece. The cranes are so accurately depicted – with all the correct details. On the bottom of the jar, the simple cloud designs are carved into the background. Everything about this jar is magnificent.
