This is one of Frederica Antonio’s iconic “infinity” bowls.  The bowl is made from Acoma clay and then painted with bee-weed and clay slips.  The designs are all painted by hand using a yucca brush.  First, they are painted horizontally, then painted vertically, and then she fills in the squares to create the design.  This bowl has a cloud pattern on the rim.  The bowl is built so that the rim turns inward.  The bottom half is a checkerboard design painted with four different colors.  First she painted the squares, then fills in the colors, then paints the lines OVER the top of the squares a second time.  This style of design is amongst her most time-consuming.   It is signed, “F. V. Antonio:”.
