I am particularly fond of Dominique’s miniatures. She is such a pleasure to work with. I really like the combination of the red polished vase with the golden mica slanted ribs. There are four slanted sparkly ribs, so well placed between the highly polished deep red areas. With its triangular opening, the triangular shaped form of this mini is also new for us. It is aesthetically so pleasing. Minis are especially hard to polish, and Dominique did an impressive job! Fired outdoors, it is beautiful.

Jemez

Dominique has been making pottery since she was very young. She is one of the leading Jemez potters working today. Her main early teachers and influences were her grandmother Marie G. Romero and her mother Maxine Toya. She describes herself as – “I am a traditional potter with contemporary designs and techniques. By traditional I mean we gather our own clay and temper and we clean them and mix them and fire outdoors with cedar wood.” Dominique won Best of Division and Best of Classification at the 2009 Santa Fe Indian Market with a micaceous swirl seed jar. She uses local clays, with a micaceous additive.
