This new miniature jar is hand coiled, traditionally fired outdoors, slipped, and polished to a deep red tone. The emphasis here is on form, shape, and polish. Sometimes, “simple” also refers to elegance, and this is a prime example. With no added designs, the mini jar shines. What a beautiful addition to one’s miniature collection.

Jemez

Dominique has been making pottery since she was very young. She is one of the leading Jemez potters working today. Her main early teachers and influences were her grandmother Marie G. Romero and her mother Maxine Toya. She describes herself as – “I am a traditional potter with contemporary designs and techniques. By traditional I mean we gather our own clay and temper and we clean them and mix them and fire outdoors with cedar wood.” Dominique won Best of Division and Best of Classification at the 2009 Santa Fe Indian Market with a micaceous swirl seed jar. She uses local clays, with a micaceous additive.
