This is a hand coiled red polished seed jar by Debra Duwyenie. Fired outside, it has a beautiful glow to it. Her incising is precise and exacting. Before she fires the bowl, she does all her sgraffito work. Polychrome turtles adorn the jar with added swimming fish. The incising on the carapaces of the turtles is very special. The matte area behind the turtles has a beautiful tan color but with a bit of a reddish cast. What is unique and spectacular about this piece is the sterling silver fitted stopper/lid made by her husband Preston Duwyenie. It has been cast from the bones of the cuddle fish and is designed this way on both sides, so the lid shows this texture from every angle. Debra is calling this piece “Jumping Trout”.
