This new open bowl by Calvin is exquisite. Hand coiled, it is so amazingly lightweight; it feels like holding eggshells in your hand. The use of the two natural clays from Hopi and Laguna work so beautifully with this design. You can see the molded look when you look inside the bowl. Many people often ask me if this is made out of wood. The painting is some of the most precise work we have seen. When I asked Calvin about the design elements, he explained. “The bowl is a prayer for prosperous deer hunt. The line work at the top and bottom represents rain, which also represents prosperity. The design in the middle are prayer birds with the deer hooves at the end.” Such gorgeous and meticulous paintings are fabulous to see.
