5 ½” high by 6 ½” wide

This new piece is different from anything we have had from Richard. It is actually three separate pieces, all connected. The base is an earthy piece of textured elm burl wood. Then comes the open lily pad. It acts as a holder for the actual coiled bud. The textures, colors, and tones in this piece are so vibrant, and they all blend so attractively together. The overall effect is one of an amazing, sculpted clay plant. Greens, blues, purples all combining with the wooden base. When I talked to Richard about the meaning of the bud pieces, his response was lovely: “these bud pieces all have to do with a return, a focus on our deepest primeval roots reconnecting with the subtle things of nature where beauty is often hiding in undiscovered places” What a great and totally unique work of art.
