What an eye dazzler! This is a hand coiled black and white clay jar, painted with a lightning and weather pattern. The thin walled, handmade piece showcases black and white zigzag and fine lines, alternating in vertical bands along the entirety of the piece. Zigzags in this case represent lightning, while fine lines in Acoma culture most often represent water, or rain. The piece is painted from top to bottom, and bears Paula’s signature underneath. It is so lightweight – thin walled with a wide shoulder. Just imagine the time involved in painting something this precise. It is so bold, and eye catching, it almost has a 3D effect. Paula continues to be an Acoma potter to watch, as she gets better and better with her painted designs.
