When I was with Calvin recently, I saw that he had made a plain bowl, with no design work at all. I really liked it, but I was hoping that it would be polished inside and out. So, Calvin graciously made this one for me with marvelous polished surfaces on both the inside and the outside. Without any painting, we can really focus on the shape and form of this piki bowl. A traditional Hopi plainware bowl is used for mixing piki, a paper-thin corn meal bread. The combination of the Laguna clay with the Hopi clay looks simple and elegant here.
